owner-Ilene

Ilene Morris White has more than 26 years of experience in personal training and therapeutic rehabilitation and 10 years in Pilates . She graduated from Temple University with a degree in exercise physiology.

Ilene brings a passion to her work that only someone who personally understands the benefits of combining chiropractic care and Pilates rehabilitation exercises utilizing all the equipment to assist with an injury she had after a car accident  in which she was hit by a drunk driver. She found herself with a case of double whiplash. This resulted in years later with her spine going kyphotic, or curving abnormally rearward., as well as , a forward head tilt. Not wanting to develop a permanently hunched back, she found relief through Pilates, which helped significantly correct her posture.

Ilene had always been active and athletic, loving exercise since the day she could walk. At the time of the accident, she was a figure skater and a dancer, and her knowledge of the physical rehabilitation options available empowered her to take an active role in her recovery.

Even with this knowledge, Ilene was amazed at the progress she was able to achieve through a combination of targeted exercise, Pilates reformer workouts, bodywork and chiropractic, all services provided at a wellness center for convenience. As she healed, she considered how many others might need similar guidance.

Committing herself to sharing this knowledge, Ilene opened Newtown Health & Wellness Center with the goal of empowering as many people as possible to become active participants in their own recovery from injury. But she wanted more for them: To celebrate that victory by learning how to be proactively well, not just reactively healthy.

To that end, she designs personally customized fitness programs that are both challenging and exciting. Using state-of-the-art commercial equipment, along with cables, free weights, medicine balls and bands, Ilene develops programs that are fun to do. They also help her clients learn that wellness isn’t just a concept, it’s a lifestyle.

Ilene has also worked as an actress since she was young. After having some television and film work under her belt, at age 20 she landed her first major gig that required her to get a coveted Screen Actors Guild card. Producers of Rocky V needed a body double for star Sylvester Stallone’s son, Sage. Sage was still a minor and so his work hours were limited and they needed an actor of majority age who could stand in for his shot blocking. It was difficult for them to find a man over 18 who was as small as a 14-year-old boy. They auditioned a thousand people, and Ilene got the part.

She had always dreamed of opening her own wellness center to share her passion for exercise. After wrapping the movie, she realized it was time. Owning Newtown Health and Wellness Center lets her indulge that passion, while allowing flexibility to still scratch the acting itch now and then.
